Here’s a basic overview of what’s involved when creating a website.
An affordable custom WordPress web design service that provides help & advice…
WHAT DOES A WEBSITE COST TO CREATE?
As part of my affordable web design service, I offer various website packages. Some of these packages include the design of a business logo.
But to give you a guide a 5 page website costs in the region of £1100. You’ll get a well designed and customised WordPress website theme. Fully responsive, SEO configured plus loaded with essential plugins to keep your site in tip-top condition. Plus you get 1 hr training and an optional 12 month maintenance package providing you with valuable after-sales support. Voila!
If you just need a design to then pass to your developer, my prices start at £350. I’ll provide a set of layered PSD files and any further support you may need.
The cost is largely dependent on the amount of web pages, the type of content, the size of your business and the site functionality you want.
I am a one-person design studio so I have low overheads compared to bigger design agencies who can charge a vast amount. You get to work with me personally on the project – so no account handlers here!
Don’t skimp on design and support as it’s a false economy – you get what you pay for. Remember this is an investment in your business.
WHAT DO I GET FOR MY MONEY?
The majority of sites I create are WordPress theme customizations. Because it’s a theme you don’t need to pay for the development (this is done already). The end result is customised to your brand, works on mobile phones and tablet devices and looks like bespoke site.
Of course if you have the budget and want a complete bespoke site, then I can do this for you too.
I ALREADY HAVE A WEB DEVELOPER. CAN YOU WORK WITH THEM?
Yes. If you already have a web developer then I’m more than happy to provide just the design part. I can work closely with you and your developer and provide all the necessary web files. These are usually supplied as PSD files.
I DON'T LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM, BUT CAN WE STILL WORK TOGETHER?
Absolutely. Location is not important. Some of my clients are based all over the UK and it works fine! If you are based overseas then we can still work together as well.
WILL I HAVE TO DEVOTE A LOT OF TIME TO WORK ON MY WEBSITE?
Don’t worry, the process can be straight forward. Once I have all the information I need and we’ve agreed the cost, schedule etc. – we’re off. You do of course need to supply content and constructive feedback at certain points, so it’s definitely a case of teamwork. The hardest part is finding a designer to work with, and hopefully you have done that!
I’VE SEEN ADVERTS FOR WEBSITES COSTING £200-300. ARE THESE ANY GOOD?
Website design can be seen as a basic commodity sometimes. And the rule of thumb with anything is that you get what you pay for. Many web designers that offer lower priced sites may seem like good value but you need to ask yourself – why are they priced so low?
The fact is that they will use a basic off-the shelf template and offer little creative input. The site will end up looking like a hundred other sites and a year down the line you will probably want to change it. There will be little SEO input and poor marketing expertise to advise you on how best to promote yourself and your services. There is also a possibility that your new site won’t be responsive, which means it won’t resize for tablet devices and mobile phones.
So think carefully before parting with your money. Employing a good designer can save you time and money in the long run.
WHAT IS SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO)?
Site engine optimization can help increase your audience size across the web. Increase the conversion ratio of audience to user, and change users into customers. It’s about making sure that customers can find your information as easily as possible. Then letting that information guide a user towards becoming a customer.
I offer an optional add-on where I’ll find the best keyword phrase(s) for your business to be added to your website. This will provide you with a good start to getting good search engine rankings on Google and Bing. Ultimately to drive more traffic to your way.
WHAT IS WORDPRESS?
WordPress is a piece of web software that can be used to create a beautiful website or blog. This software is free and used all over the world by thousands of users and designers.
WordPress is very adaptable and can be used to create a site for small businesses, e-commerce companies and even scale up for bigger corporations.
Adding a logo, customising colours, uploading images or video, and adding text is a complete dream. Best of all you get to control your website when you want to.
WHAT IS A CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (CMS)?
A content management system (CMS) is a piece of tech that allows you the user to alter your website whenever you want to. A CMS is included in WordPress as standard. You can simply add text, images and video at the click of a few buttons.
Websites don’t have to static or boring anymore. And certainly there is no need to use Flash as they are built using HTML, PHP and CSS coded.
A CMS is really the best tool for customers and web designers as it makes life so much easier.
